Boilers are an energy-efficient and highly reliable way to heat your home or business. They are quiet and do an excellent job of evenly heating a building. Also, because they are so reliable, you probably won’t need repairs very often. But, because these units often provide hot water as well as heat to businesses or residences, it is often all the more urgent to have them repaired when they malfunction. But you can count on Guardian Heating and Cooling to provide you with prompt service year-round. We will be on time every time.

Boiler Service & Maintenance

Boiler Service

At Guardian Heating and Cooling, we provide a variety of heating and cooling services, including boiler service and repair. Regular service is an essential part of safely and efficiently running a boiler. In fact, for safety reasons, you should have your boiler inspected at least once a year. Here are some other advantages to getting your boiler serviced.

  • By having your boiler serviced regularly, you can extend your boiler’s lifespan and have any issues fixed before they become serious problems.
  • Proper maintenance will also decrease the chances of your boiler breaking down and possibly requiring emergency service, which can be very costly.
  • Regular service will also help your boiler to run more efficiently, thus helping you to save money.

If you have your boiler serviced, here are some of the checks we generally perform.

Conduct a Brief Visual Inspection

  • A technician looks over the boiler for any visible signs of leaks, damage, or corrosion. The technician will also check the flame and see if the boiler meets current standards.

Remove the Boiler Casing

  • Once the boiler casing is removed, the technician will check its components to ensure they are working correctly and clean the boiler’s interior as well. The spark probe, main injector, heat exchanger, and any other important components will be checked.

Flue Check

  • The technician will also check the flue terminal to ensure it fits well and is not obstructed.

Fire Up the Boiler

  • The technician will also light the boiler to see if the gas rates and the boiler pressure are correct.

Write a Report

  • When the technician finishes, they will write a report stating what they found in the inspection, including any problems with the boiler.

Boiler Repair

Although servicing your boiler can help decrease issues with it, you still may find yourself needing repairs. If you suspect you have a problem with your boiler, it is crucial to have your boiler looked at promptly for safety reasons. Our experienced technicians are ready to help you with any issues with your boiler.

Our technicians receive regular training to keep up with the latest technology and have all the tools necessary to get your boiler up and running if possible. Also, if your boiler cannot be repaired, we can help you find the best new boiler for your needs.

Signs Your Boiler May Need Repairs

Sometimes it may be difficult to tell if your boiler needs service. But here are some signs you can look for that may indicate your boiler requires repair or replacement.

  • Higher Heating Bills: If you have noticed your heating bills going up lately without reason, this could mean your boiler has a leak or other problems.
  • Inadequate Heat: If your home or business takes unusually long to heat up or never adequately heats up, it could mean you have a problem with your boiler.
  • Leaks: Leaks are not only a problem for your boiler but can also cause damage to your home.
  • Lack of Hot Water: If your hot water does not stay consistently hot, it could mean the thermostat for your boiler is not functioning correctly.
  • Odd Noises: A boiler should operate reasonably quietly. So, if your boiler makes a lot of strange noises, it may have a problem.

Common Problems with Boilers

Boilers are very durable and don’t often require repairs. But even with proper care, your boiler may eventually require repairs. Here are some of the more common reasons boilers need to be repaired.

  • Pilot Problems: Not all pilot lights need to stay lit all the time these days. Instead, some pilot lights use electric ignition and are lit only when needed. However, if your pilot light won’t light, it will need to be repaired.
  • Kettling: Kettling is the sound a boiler makes when water is boiling inside it. It usually occurs when there are a lot of minerals in the water, and these minerals can alter the pressure levels in your tank. Most boilers have safeguards that cause them to shut off if the pressure is too high. But, if rust flakes cause the kettling, your boiler may develop a leak.
  • Leaking: If you have a leak coming from your boiler tank, it is a serious problem. Your boiler will likely need to be replaced. But, if the leak is coming from a different part of the boiler, such as the pump or the pressure value, your boiler may be able to be repaired rather than replaced.
  • Not Heating: This issue could be caused by many problems, from something very simple that could be fixed quickly to a problem that requires your boiler to be replaced. A technician must examine the boiler and diagnose the problem when the boiler is not providing any heat.
  • Over or Under Heating: If you find your home is always too hot or too cold, it could be a problem with the thermostat. A faulty thermostat is not an unusual problem, but if you don’t have it repaired, it could lead to more problems with your boiler and damage your plumbing as well.
